This policy covers the TravelJotter app. For this website, see Website Privacy.

Effective date: 27th September 2026

TravelJotter is a personal travel journal made by AtomSparq Ltd. It is designed so that your data stays yours: there are no TravelJotter accounts, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no advertising, and no servers of ours. This policy explains what data the app handles, where it is stored, which Apple services process information when you use particular features, and what little information we receive ourselves.

The short version

  • TravelJotter does not automatically send your travel records to AtomSparq Ltd. We cannot access the records stored on your devices or in your private iCloud database. We do not sell your records or share them for advertising, analytics or tracking.
  • TravelJotter does not use its own analytics or tracking tools, and there are no ads in this version of the app.
  • If you contact support, we receive your email address and whatever information you choose to send us.

Your data is stored on your device. Some features also involve other services:

  • Location search sends search text and requests for selected places to Apple Maps.
  • When iCloud sync is enabled, your records are stored in your private iCloud database and synced across your devices.
  • When you export, the file goes to the location, app or recipient you choose.
  • If you enable sharing with app developers, Apple may provide us with crash reports and usage statistics, as explained below.

What data the app handles

TravelJotter works with the information you enter into it:

  • Trip records — the places you've travelled between, dates and times, travel modes, trip names, and any notes you write.
  • Home location history — the places you tell the app you have lived, and when.
  • Saved locations — city, town or village names, country and state or region details, time zones, and coordinates where available. These come from locations you select, enter manually or import, and are retained even after the trips or home periods that used them are deleted.
  • Photo and video references — links to items in your photo library that you attach to trips. The app stores references and basic metadata, such as the date taken, original filename, dimensions, media type, duration, and location coordinates where available. It never stores copies of the photos or videos themselves.
  • Consent record — the fact that you accepted the app's disclaimer during setup, and which version of it.
  • Account marker — an anonymous identifier for the iCloud account in use, kept on the device only, so the app can tell when a different account signs in. It is not sent anywhere and is not included in exports or snapshots.

This information is stored on your device and used to provide the app's features. Your trip list and statistics are computed on your device, and your recorded locations and routes are plotted on the map there. The Apple services used for map display, location search and syncing are described below.

Where your data is stored

On your device. Your records live in the app's private storage on your device. The app also keeps automatic local backup snapshots of your data (Settings → Recovery Snapshots). These are stored on your device too and may be included in device backups, depending on your backup settings.

In your iCloud (if enabled). TravelJotter can sync your data across your devices using iCloud. When sync is enabled:

  • Your data is stored in your private iCloud database, under your own Apple account, alongside your other iCloud data. It counts against your iCloud storage.
  • Apple manages iCloud storage and security under its applicable iCloud terms and privacy policy.
  • AtomSparq Ltd cannot access your private iCloud database.
  • You can turn sync off through your device's iCloud settings. Turning it off does not itself delete data already stored in iCloud. Synced data can be removed through your device's iCloud storage settings.

Wherever you export it. You can export your data as a file at any time (Settings → Export). What you do with an exported file — save it, share it, email it — is entirely under your control, and outside the app from that point on.

Information processed by Apple Maps. Location searches and map display also involve Apple's services. Apple's handling and retention of information from these requests are described under Apple services the app uses below; this is separate from storage of your TravelJotter records.

Apple services the app uses

TravelJotter has no servers of its own, but some features use Apple's services:

  • Maps and location search. The map uses Apple Maps to load map content. As you type in the location fields, TravelJotter sends search text to Apple Maps to request suggestions, including when you ultimately enter the location manually. Selecting a result requests its location details, such as coordinates, locality and time zone. TravelJotter does not send your trip records, notes or home-location timeline as part of these searches. Apple's processing and retention of information from Maps requests are governed by its Maps privacy terms and privacy policy. AtomSparq does not receive the requests or control Apple's retention.
  • iCloud sync. If you enable sync, your TravelJotter data is stored in your private iCloud database and synced across devices signed into your Apple account. It counts against your iCloud storage, is handled under Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy, and cannot be accessed by AtomSparq Ltd.
  • Photo library. Access to your photos happens on your device, with your permission, when you use the app's photo features. The original photos and videos are never uploaded or copied by TravelJotter. References and stored metadata for attached items form part of your TravelJotter data and may sync through your private iCloud database when sync is enabled.
  • Crash reports and usage statistics. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device settings (Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements), Apple may provide us with crash reports and usage statistics for TravelJotter in an aggregated form or a form that does not personally identify you. These may include technical information about your device, the app and any crashes. Sharing is controlled by your device settings and Apple's App Analytics privacy terms. TravelJotter does not have its own crash-reporting or analytics service.

Other than the diagnostic and usage information described above, we receive nothing from these interactions.

What we don't do

  • TravelJotter does not include analytics or tracking SDKs. Apple may provide diagnostic and usage information under the settings and services described above.
  • No advertising, and no advertising SDKs, in this version of the app.
  • No accounts, sign-ups, or profiles.
  • We do not sell your data or share it for advertising, analytics, or tracking.
  • Other than the Apple services described above, the destinations you choose when exporting or sharing, and the email services involved when you contact us, we do not send your information to third-party services.

What we do receive: support email

If you contact us via Send Feedback (or email us directly at traveljottersupport@atomsparq.com), we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write or attach, including any records you choose to send us. The prefilled feedback email also includes the app version and iOS version, to help us help you — you can delete these before sending if you prefer.

If you choose to send us diagnostic files, they may contain technical information about your device, the app and the problem. We use these files to investigate the issue and provide support.

We use this information only to respond to you, provide support, and improve the app. We don't add you to mailing lists. Your and our email providers process the message as necessary to deliver and store the correspondence, but we do not otherwise share your message or address. You can ask us to delete our correspondence with you at any time by emailing the same address, subject to any information we must retain for legal reasons.

How we handle support correspondence

For data-protection purposes, AtomSparq Ltd is the controller of the personal information we receive in support correspondence.

  • Purpose: to answer your enquiry, provide support, and use feedback to improve TravelJotter.
  • Lawful basis: AtomSparq Ltd processes this information on the basis of its legitimate interests in responding to support requests and improving TravelJotter.
  • Retention: We normally delete support correspondence within three months after the enquiry has been resolved. We may retain it for longer where reasonably necessary to handle an ongoing issue, establish or defend legal claims, or meet a legal obligation. We may keep feedback that is useful for improving the app after removing information that identifies you.
  • Recipients: Microsoft provides AtomSparq Ltd's email service and processes correspondence on our behalf. A message is also processed by the email provider used by the person contacting us, and may be disclosed where necessary to meet a legal obligation.
  • International transfers: A person emailing us from outside the UK does not, by itself, mean that AtomSparq Ltd transfers their information internationally. Microsoft may process some information outside the UK. Where UK data-protection law requires a safeguard for that processing, Microsoft provides contractual protections through its Products and Services Data Protection Addendum, including the applicable standard contractual clauses and UK transfer addendum.

Your control over your data

  • Export everything at any time as a file you own (Settings → Export).
  • Delete individual records. You can delete trips, photo references or home periods from your active data. These deletions sync through iCloud when enabled. Older copies may remain in recovery snapshots, exported files or device backups.
  • Saved locations are retained. Deleting trips or home periods does not delete the saved location records they used. Those records may retain locality names, coordinates and time zones on your device and in iCloud when sync is enabled. Unused locations are hidden from the location picker, map and trip filter. This version does not provide a separate control to delete saved locations.
  • Delete All travel data. Settings → Delete All removes trips, travel legs and photo references. It preserves your home-location history, saved locations, consent record and recovery snapshots. The deletions sync through iCloud when enabled.
  • Delete recovery snapshots. Settings → Recovery Snapshots lets you delete all recovery snapshots on that device. Older snapshots are also removed automatically under the app's retention rules. Deleting snapshots does not delete your active records or turn off automatic snapshots.
  • Remove local app data. Deleting TravelJotter removes its local app data and recovery snapshots from that device. It does not delete synced data from iCloud, copies on other devices, exported files or existing device backups. Those copies must be managed separately. Synced data can be removed through your device's iCloud storage settings. Reinstalling with iCloud enabled may download your synced records again.
  • Original photos and videos are never held by the app — they remain in your photo library under its own controls. TravelJotter stores only the references and metadata described above.

Because we cannot access records stored on your devices or in your private iCloud database, you manage those records through the app and your device and iCloud settings. For personal information that we do receive through support correspondence, you may have rights to request access, correction, erasure, restriction, or a copy of your information, and to object to its use. Which rights apply can depend on the circumstances and our lawful basis for processing. Contact us using the address below to exercise a right.

If you are in the UK and are unhappy with how we handle your personal information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). You can find its contact details at ico.org.uk, although we would appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first.

Children

TravelJotter is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to us in support correspondence, please contact us so that we can delete it.

Changes to this policy

If TravelJotter's data handling changes in a future version (for example, if a future update introduces advertising), we will update this policy, change the effective date above, and — for material changes — inform you in the app before the new behaviour takes effect.
